What you wish for

Well now, here I was wishing I had a few more days off work and just a couple hours into my first day back at the office the Director and CFO show up to inform me and one other co-worker that they were closing the Glasgow office and our jobs were being eliminated. I'm a frickin office manager who works a lot of unpaid overtime every week, but apparently they feel my duties can be spread among the remaining staff. WTF?

We had a second meeting on Friday which I thought was to be my last day but it turned out to be a another formal step in the legal procedures where I was to, in essence, beg for my job. Even though I don't have a job to compete for. They did sort of inquire as to whether I would be interested in relocating (not really) but of course I'd be damn stupid turning anything down so now I have to wait until Wednesday for them to give me the official notice. Potential relocation (slight potential, that) but most likely redundancy.

A kick in the head that word - redundant.

Ever since they made the announcement on Wednesday the rest of the staff stopped phoning and emailing me so its been pretty quiet in the office. I'm still going to go in tomorrow, at the very least to assert my presence even if I'm just drinking coffee and reading the newspaper. I'll probably work on my CV (resume) too, might as well make use of the printer, eh?

I did leave early on Friday, had myself a good sized drink (or five) while I faffed about on the laptop and watched a few dvds and then settled in for a nice long snooze. I got up on Saturday and started to tidy up the flat, finally scrubbing all the paint off the bedroom floor. I trimmed and ironed a piece of fabric as a runner for the nightstand and then changed the bed linens and damn my room is starting to look real purdy.

Today I ran a quick errand to city centre but the crowds were too oppressive and I found myself scurrying for home sooner than expected. Ember showed up this evening with the shelf 'legs' and with the two new shelves installed I've doubled my cupboard space in the kitchen. I made a wee error on the bottom shelf measurement, not taking into account the door hinge, but it still fits and I'm quite tickled pink. I didn't like the idea of a the tiny kitchen when I first moved in, but add couple shelves and a pot rack and a lovely rug and it really is rather cute and efficient.

Not much left to patter on about, I'll post an update once I know something for sure on Wednesday. In the meantime, here are a few of my recent shots...
