August Roundup

What I saw in AUGUST:

at the grocery store-- yes, I snickered like a 12 year old.

from the patio:
Part of Southern General hospital, where I will be having my surgery in October.
I wonder just how much styling product is needed to sustain that look.
Playing with brightness and contrast.
Wandering down Sauchiehall Street.
Pffft.
Statue of Donald Dewar, the 1st 'First Minister of Scotland' , after devolution in 1999. Sculpted by Kenny Mackay, it was unveiled on May 7th, 2002 and stands in front of the Royal Concert Hall on Buchanan Street.

Shot taken from front window; I just loved the billowy clouds.

Once more, from the back patio.

River Cart, outside the Town Hall in Paisley, shot while waiting for the bus.

New Toy for New Job

I thought I was nervous about booking my first photojob (my friend’s September wedding) but that is nothing compared to how nervous I am for my first PAYING photography job in two weeks.

I’m stressing (nothing new there) about the fact that I just had to charge an incredibly expensive piece of equipment (seen in photo) and I still need to buy something to wear to the job (it is at some swanky night event) HOWEVER, if I do well I’ve already been promised a couple more bookings. Squee.

[**update: August 7: the photography job (the one I just shelled out a shitload of money to buy a piece of equipment for) was cancelled. Fuck.]

Eugene Atget Experience

Another impromptu wander through Merchant City, and I couldn't help shooting these awesome window displays by Boudiche Exquisite Lingerie and Agent Provocateur.

After posting my shots to flickr, one of my contacts commented that it reminded her of Eugene Atget’s work. I told her, “I don’t know who that is, but I love me some learning so I’m off to find out!”

I subsequently ordered
this book and I have to say, I love his work. I really like how he saw something different in the “ordinary”. I’ve always tried to explain to my friends how I too see my surroundings differently, and use photography in an attempt to capture just what that difference is.

I’m not comparing myself to a master, but it’s like I found a kindred spirit.
